THE WELLBEING SERVICES COUNTY OF SOUTH KARELIA WORKS FOR THE WELLBEING, SAFETY AND HEALTH OF SOUTH KARELIA'S CITIZENS AND GUARANTEES ACCESSIBLE AND TIMELY SERVICES IN THE REGION
FOR ALL ITS MORE THAN 125,000 RESIDENTS.
The wellbeing services county brings together private, public and third-sector operators to form a network of services covering the whole region. The wellbeing services county is close to its customers in their daily lives – taking care of them in all situations in life. This is also reflected in its values: I protect, I dare, I take responsibility, I care.
The basic function of the wellbeing services county is to create socially sustainable development by promoting the wellbeing, health and safety of the region's population. For customers, this is reflected in the fact that the county develops its services in a holistic way, taking into account continuity of care and optimisation of the service network.
The provision of services also takes account of ecological sustainability. This means matching service provision with demand, reducing emissions and environmental impacts, anddeveloping remote and mobile services.
The wellbeing services county is also a responsible and active developer of the vitality of the region. People are the guiding principle of all the activities of the wellbeing services county and, with the right choices, they will ensure a better environment for future generations.
The wellbeing services county of South Karelia is also committed to active and systematic environmental work, and follows the EcoCompass environmental programme it has built. This programme covers all sectors of the county and all its staff. The EcoCompass environmental management system has been developed on the basis of the international ISO14001 standard.
In autumn 2023, the wellbeing services county of South Karelia was the first of its kind to be awarded the EcoCompass certificate. The aim for the coming years is to make effective, environmentally friendly choices in line with the environmental programme.
These include more efficient use of energy, more opportunities to recycle plastics, more sustainable procurement, more fuel-efficient and low-emission logistics and transport, and more effective use of the chemicals programme.
