The Greenreality Carnival was arranged at Kansalaistori square in front of Lappeenranta City Hall during the city's Open Doors day on 29.8.2019. Last year the amount of visitors was estimated to be around 3000. This year the event increased its popularity compared to last year with 3500 estimated visitors, from whom a approximately third was schoolchildren.
Earth's resources and climate change advance in a rapid pace. How does it affect everyday life in Finland and what kind of goods and services are needed for a sustainable lifestyle? The city of Lappeenranta searches for households to experiment with these goods and services for a month's test period during autumn. Also companies who can provide goods and services for participants to test during the test period are looked for.Â
The city of Lappeenranta has joined a project that supports the international networking of companies. The city has started as the leader of the Cata3Pult project at the beginning of June with partners Helsinki metropolitan area's company network Green Net Finland, Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, the clean tech -network of Saint Petersburg and Petersburgian environmental office Kosmos.
A new Greenreality 370 park will be created in celebration of the 370th birthday of Lappeenranta. The park will be located in Lauritsala, at the corner of Hyötiöntie and Luukkaankatu. The city challenges citizens, companies and for example associations to make a climate action and plant a tree for the anniversary of the city.

The City of Lappeenranta, the Saimaa University of Applied Sciences and Design Reform and have been working together on developing the virtual modelling of the city. Several selected areas in the city centre will be modelled and the future visions of 2030 and 2050 are created describing the anticipated city views.
Lappeenranta to implement a new type of energy storage that will replace fossil fuels and bring flexibility to the operation of the grid
The City of Lappeenranta is testing a new type of energy storage system in connection with the Mustola heating plant. In the system, energy is stored in equipment based on the phase transitions of materials. The new, revolutionary technology of the equipment makes energy storage more cost-effective.
Lappeenranta to become one of the first cities in the world to operate a virtual power plant – Siemens enables properties to join the electricity balancing market
Siemens Oy is supplying a virtual power plant service for properties to the City of Lappeenranta. Lappeenranta is one of the first cities in the world to utilise the potential of flexible consumption on this scale. The service will initially be offered at nine properties. In addition, the agreement includes 50 properties as an option.Â
Residents are challenged to take part in climate action through Greenreality Homes activities
Greenreality is a model way of thinking and operating for building a green future, to which Lappeenranta is committed. Lappeenranta wants to be a model city for environmentally friendly activities, Greenreality Lappeenranta. Greenreality is a collective effort between everyone – the city, businesses as well as residents. Residents are involved in climate action and the implementation of measures to support sustainable development through Greenreality Homes activities.
